As a retired wildlife carer, these animals were a delight to care for....
I grew up opposite Haig Park from the late 40's and the early mornings were full of the sounds and colour of the nominated birds. We also had the joy of adopting a pet magpie in our yard each nesting season. Our pets would stay...
Galahs are my favourite bird. FAB colour scheme, and such sweet birds - always in pairs #romanceneverdies I love them so much I got a stunning (if I do say so myself!) galah tattoo here in Canberra that also features bluebells and other Australian flora...
I grew up with blue tongue lizards in my garden in Mawson. We built a new house in O'Connor 13 years ago and planted a native garden in the back yard. Regular visits from magpies, currawongs, eastern spinebills, silver eyes, superb fairy wrens and wattle...
The local magpies and peewees (magpie-larks) own my house. For them, it's their property. I only remember the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos starting to visit the neighbourhood after the 2003 Canberra bushfires. I chose threatened species, as they're beautiful and tenacious and we will need reminders of them in the future....
Animals keep me here, I love them all and wish more humans cared as much for our nature as they do there bank balance...
Currawong calls always remind me of camping with my dad when I was young...
