The Australian alpine region is among the world’s ecosystems most threatened by climate change. Many of our alpine flora, fauna and funga require winter snow cover and spring melts to complete their life cycles. With climate models predicting 96% reduction in snow by 2070, if we reach a +3.6°C global temperature increase, many species are threatened with extinction. Action on climate change is paramount to reduce biodiversity loss in the Alps in conjunction with controlling problematic species and keeping habitat intact.
